Litchfield Residence Hall / Western CT State University
Renovation and Addition
Litchfield Hall is a dormitory originally built in 1963, to which the University Health Offices were added in a 1989 renovation.
The major upgrading and renovation of 2016-17 consists of extensive site development, exterior envelope redesign and window replacement, redesigned entrance lobby and public spaces, as well as extensive interior renovations and mechanical upgrades.
Highlights of the project are the new Courtyard, which turned the unused, overgrown space between the buildings into an attractive gathering place flowing smoothly from inside to the outside, with seating area, landscaping and elegant minimalist trellis; the wood-clad exterior with new, large curtain walls opening the renovated lounges to compelling views of the campus; and, at the interior, the carefully crafted wood cabinetry and glazed entrances which transform the shared spaces and corridors into rich, welcoming environments.
